如何优雅地称呼“腐国”贵族？

　　一、替代名字：避免直呼其名，以示尊重

　　1.贵族互称Lord X或Lady Y

　　a)LADY EDITH: “Have you spoken to Lady Mary about this?” 贵族之间

　　b)LADY MARY: “Better be prepared. I‘m afraid Lord Grantham will hit the roof.” 贵族之间

　　2.平民对贵族称My Lord或Milord、My Lady或Milady

　　a)MISS O’BRIEN: “Well, it’s Daisy, my lady...the kitchen maid.” 平民对贵族

　　b)MR BATES: “It does matter, my lord.” 平民对贵族

　　二、替代人称代词：通常要用Your Ladyship、Her Ladyship、Your Lordship、His Lordship等替代you、he或him、she或her，以示尊敬。

　　1.MR CARSON: “It seems she‘s made a cake for Your Ladyship as a surprise, but I am uneasy with surprises at the best of times and I wonder if the whole exercise is entirely appropriate.”

　　相当于you，女性。

　　2.ANNA: “I wanted to see Your Lordship because...”

　　相当于you，男性。

　　3.ROBERT: “Carson, I’ll be in the library. Will you let me know when Her Ladyship is down?”

　　相当于she。

　　4.MRS PATMORE: “And I’m trying to persuade Her Ladyship that I have already planned the dinner with her, and I can’t change it now.”

　　相当于her。

　　5.MR CARSON: “His Lordship is missing a very valuable snuff box.”

　　相当于he。

　　6.BRANSON: “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to speak against His Lordship.”

　　相当于him。

　　三、另外，剧中混用尊称与普通称呼的情况不少，这可能与年代相对晚近【一战前后】有关。如，

　　1.MR WILLIAM MOLESLEY: “I doubt if you got that one, Your Ladyship. I’ve only just found it myself.”

　　前者应为Your Ladyship，后者应为My Lady。

　　2.MR WILLIAM MOLESLEY: “Thank you, Your Lordship.”

　　前者应为Your Lordship，后者应为My Lord。此时似宜调整句子结构。

　　3.VERA BATES: “I must say, this is very good. Does Lord Grantham have his own blend?”

　　平民僭用贵族之间的称呼

　　四、替代名字和人称代词这两种情形也可同时出现，如“My Lady, if I may deal with the points which Your Ladyship has raised...”，相当于一般情形下先呼其名，如Mary，接着用you替代的做法。

　　当代lord与lady很少使用，主要用于法官，此时皆可译为“尊敬的法官”

　　1.I am obliged, my Lady.

　　陈述完毕，尊敬的法官【女性】

　　2.My Lord, the third defendant has taken no part in these proceedings.

　　尊敬的法官，第三被告与此无关

　　3.I am happy to tell Your Lordship that the parties have reached terms in this matter.

　　很高兴告诉尊敬的法官，各方对此已达成一致

　　4.Describe the layout of the room to His Lordship.

　　请向尊敬的法官描述房屋的结构
